We are pleased to announce that TRE ALTAMIRA and IDS GeoRadar, through our partner Optron, have signed a contract with Barrick to provide the Lumwana Copper Mine in Zambia with a ground motion monitoring service using satellite InSAR in combination with ground-based radar systems (IBIS).
With the growing need for safer mining operations, satellite InSAR has proven to be cost-effective in highlighting areas where changes in ground motion are occurring due to mining activity, providing an at-a-glance understanding of ground deformation over the entire site, including mine infrastructures. IBIS radars are widely used for critical monitoring of rapid ground movements on steep slopes with a very-fast response time, enabling the implementation of early warning systems.
The combination of the two services offers a more complete monitoring strategy for mine sites. They help surveyors and geotechnical engineering teams mitigate risk and assist in making mining operations safer for both people and the environment.
TRE ALTAMIRA is a key player in InSAR technology offering decades of experience with diverse InSAR solutions to many market sectors.
IDS GeoRadar, part of Hexagon, is a leading provider of multi-frequency, multi-channel Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Interferometric technology solutions worldwide.
