TRE Altamira is proud to renew its collaboration with Tidong Power Generation Pvt. Ltd. to provide InSAR monitoring services during the construction of the Tidong Hydro Power Plant (owned by Statkraft, the European largest renewable energy company) in India.

The project is in a very remote, geologically challenging area in the Himalayas.

Haldun Kahyaoglu, Statkraft’s project director, shared this feedback with us:

“Tidong Hydropower Project is located in a remote part of India, more precisely in Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh. The powerhouse and the intake area are connected by a narrow road in a mountainous region within the Himalaya belt, where landslides and rock mass failures are very common.

This threatens the safety of both the structures that we are building and the roads and logistics routes. At the beginning of the project, we realized that we needed a large-scale monitoring system for the whole area to complement our ground-based monitoring tools.

We discussed our needs with TREA, and they developed an InSAR solution. Since the beginning, TREA has provided a very effective and professional service, producing helpful reports, delivered on time. Knowing the land movements in the area of the project, with a millimetric precision, allows us to control and efficiently manage risks.”

Our CEO, Alessandro Ferretti, commented:

“The availability of Sentinel-1 data allows every company involved in the design, construction, or maintenance of infrastructure in any area of the world, to increase the knowledge of possible land displacement phenomena that can pose a threat to infrastructure.”
